Agya

Agya, meaning “father” in Twi, honours the role of the Black father as both guardian and giver of legacy. In this portrait, a father gently embraces his child, both adorned with gold halos that reclaim divine Black fatherhood. Their matching fabrics, inspired by Adinkra and Kente traditions, affirm identity, strength, and continuity. Surrounded by bold Adinkra symbols, this piece becomes more than a portrait. It’s a testament to generational love and the enduring power of lineage. Agya was inspired by the often unseen tenderness of African fatherhood. It reclaims the image of the Black father as a loving protector and transmitter of legacy, someone whose emotional presence is as powerful as his physical one.
